I think it can. I know of someone who "tweets" pretty much everytime they go out drinking(which seems to be often).

They also travel for their job and will tweet that they're at a certian airport lounge.

Don't they worry about a boss or coworkers getting a hold of this information? If you look at their last 3 pages of tweets it involves drinking.

I don't get why they would feel the need to post all that in the first place, but way too much information about drinking.

I think being on Twitter can be as bad as Facebook.

If they're not tweeting when they're on the job, and they're not tweeting about the job, why should the employer care? Some of them may, but those employers are sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong.

As long as their alcohol consumption doesn't affect their job performance and they aren't drinking on the job, what does it matter?

Because a lot of them were while traveling for work. Sitting in airport lounges drinking.

Airlines have really cracked down(I witnessed it myself with Southwest Airlines) on letting passengers who are somewhat "tipsy" boarding flights. They make them sober up and put them on a later flight.

You tweet too much information and then you say your flight is delayed, the boss might check and find out you were denied boarding due to being drunk.

Why give people "ammo" against you? These are almost daily tweets discussing drinking.

Besides why the need to tell people where you're at and what you're doing all the time? What's next? What time you had a BM?

Just because someone is in an airport lounge, it doesn't mean they are getting bombed or even drinking alcohol. And someone who has a beer before a flight isn't "tipsy."

The "tweets" mention mostly drinking. IMO not a good idea to be telling others how much and how often you drink. These weren't just on the weekends either.

Down the road it could come back to bite someone, "oh Bob sure drinks alot, might not be the best person for a promotion" or "maybe the reason they screwed up that project is due to all their drinking".

It may or may not be true, it doesn't really matter. It is still sending out an image that can cause problems.

Same thing with Facebook. People who have been involved in DUIs that have injured or killed people are now investigated on social websites by the police.

There was in FL not that long ago a woman who hit and killed a 5yr old girl, on her Facebook page was a picture of her drinking in a bar. And she mentioned being a "party girl".

It was used against her at her trial.

Not too smart, and also what kind of ego thinks the world needs to know all the details of their life.

People do have to be careful of Facebook/Twitter/Social Media gaffs.

Even if it is your free time, if it reflects badly on the company, it can cost you your job.

I have a youngish friend who often goes on about getting high on F/B. I wonder why he keeps doing that. It makes him look like a jerk. He will send messages from work saying later I am going to smoke. Or other terminology. I have no idea what a lot of it means because I don't use drugs or alcohol.

Getting high and drinking are two different animals when it comes to employment. I don't tweet, but I'll post on facebook about parties and such that involve drinking.

Sure, an employer can terminate you for your posts, but they can also terminate you for wearing a black shirt. You seem to be a bit paranoid... but do what you feel comfortable with.

I agree it probably isn't a good idea to post on Twitter or Facebook about drinking, but I don't think saying you are in the lounge at an airport is that big a deal.

Simple solution, don't let anyone at work find out your twitter username? I block everyone I work with on FB, if they try to friend me I block them. One loser actually asked me about it, I told him I dropped out of FB.
