And then the employed guy who accepted for the new job gives his employer 2 weeks notice, the boss of job A is filling the position with another guy, and at Friday when he left job A and preparing to start job B at Monday, he gets a phone from the boss of job B telling him that "the client is not going to fund your position, good buy and thanks for the fishes". And the guy is now without job A, without job B and without UI benefits because he quit and not laid off.
And yes, those things are happening like we saw on this forum. And that the reason that I never look for work while I'm working in a more or less decent place. Too risky.

Have you considered doing something on your own and not looking to hire on to any company or maybe working as an independent contractor? Sometimes it seems that either government or the corporate state is the only way people can make money. If you have skills or talent or are just willing to physically work, you can make a way. Figure out a service people around you need and offer your services. You sound young, take a risk- paint houses, mow lawns, run errands, walk pets, detail cars, clean swimming pools, sell at flea markets, etc. Once your name gets around and if your work is good, people will beat a path to your door. You don't know, but that one person you may help could just be the multimillionaire businessman that will bankroll your success.

Well if that's the case we might as well consider this world screwed.

Eh, who are you to say he will be out of work a long time???
How could you ever know that?
With the current economy, a lot of good people are out of work.
"Mistakes"...as if managers and HR people don't make "mistakes".
But time is coming when companies will not be using HR people. They simply don't need them, as they can outsource their benefits to benefit providers, let the managers handle the payroll and other, and have attorneys for any legal matters. Computers now are doing the choosing of qualified candidates, as HR people seem to be having quite a hard time determining that.

People are talking like it is 1960 when they give you that.
Right now, in this economy, plenty of educated, experienced, and qualified people are out of work or underemployed. It is nothing for someone to have a gap in their work history.
You were out of work because you were out of work. That's why you're looking for a job. If they need you, they aren't going to get all crappy about your former job loss.

That's exactly right... I had 2 employment gaps in my resume, from 11/09 thru 9/10 and 01/11 thru 5/11 when I was hired last May for my current job.
My length of unemployment never once came up in the phone interview but the first thing he did say was "We've been looking for someone for months."

I was out of a job several times in the past few years. No one is surprised in my field.
If they need someone, they aren't going to muddy the waters with getting anal about someone being laid off.
Glad you found work.

Thanks... it was a year ago today that I emailed my resume from GA to WA... they contacted me the same day and I was hired after a phone interview the following week.
Never in a million years did I think I'd ever live on the west coast, but I had to do something. Unemployment doesn't last forever. It's good that things worked out the way they did because now Georgia is rolling out the harshest UI cuts in the nation.

I'm glad I moved when I did. I miss my family but I don't miss that state.
