There are 2 jobs I am looking at. One you get a set salary and pay from the beginning where as the other has 4 levels.
What I want to know, is with these promotions do you think most employers give away promotions to favorites and limit everyone else to the lower levels?
Job A
Drug and Alcohol Counselor lvl 1
$40,622.40-$49,400.00 Yearly
Promotion to lvl 2 after 1 yr experience
Drug and Alcohol Counselor Lvl 2
$43,468.80-$52,838.40 Yearly
Promotion to lvl 3 after 2 yrs experience
Drug and Alcohol Counselor lvl 3
$51,854.40-$63,024.00 Yearly
Promotion to lvl 4 after 3 yrs experience
Drug and Alcohol Counselor lvl 4
$57,262.40-$69,617.60 Yearly
Job B
$48,886.61 - $59,681.20 Annually
(only 2 years experience)
I should mention Job A offers no life insurance where as there is $20,000 life insurance with Job B.
I get 2% at Age 60 for retirement for Job A from a Pension Trust.
I get 2% at Age 61 1/4 for retirement from Job B from the 1947 Retirement Act.
I get more vacation days at Job B and more misc. benefits.
However, I would have to pay more for health benefits at Job B where as Job A covers most of the health benefit costs.
Also, Job B is closer to more job opportunities. Job A is the best job opportunity in the area and Job B is surrounded by more job opportunities that could arise in the future.
I think Job A is a bit fishy. Does everyone agree? I can add more details if needed and the links.
If you can have someone run a net present value analysis on your cash flow over a period of say 5 years at least, you will see which is a better value.
Do you have two years experience to jump into Job B at the get go?

I will have one yr experience, but Job B said they could get me into a lower pay job to get that extra year of experience.
Job B offered me an internship to get that 1 yr experience, but Job A was more reserved and less willing to give me any details.
