To all of the Administrative Professionals out there, Has anyone actually gotten lucky and obtained a job in another state successfully. Personally I have a job, but Im looking to relocate. But I dont want to relocate unless I obtain some type of employment....Meanwhile, Im trying to sell my home *fingers-crossed* and pad my savings accounts for some cushion.

The trouble is, unless you have some rare skill, administrative assistants are a dime a dozen. I am not being rude--I read this on a forum recently regarding employment.

Any one with office experience who knows some programs and has a nice phone manner can do this job. So they can find a local candidate very easily.

That won't make a difference. There are Administrative Professionals in their own state that can't get a job.

I beg to differ....Most of the administrative professionals that I currently work with are not even from my home state. They moved to my state because they could not find a job from where they came from. I think there are jobs out there, we just have to make ourselves stand out from the rest.

I'm one, too. I lost my job in January of 2009, and have yet to find another one. Administrative Professionals are a dime a dozen.

While contemplating a move to Texas, I applied for a job in my field (Corrections Dept. Admin. Asst.). I don't remember if it was online or in person. Anyway, on one of my visits to Texas (my daughter was military and newly married, so I visited several times that year) I had an in-person interview on Tuesday, and was scheduled for hiring testing on Friday, my last day in town. On Wednesday, I found my current home an hour away, so I called to let them know I would not be available any longer for the job. When I returned to MI, I found they had already called my boss for a reference. If I had been able to accept the job, I would have obviously had to find a way to work it out.
