Yeah it's a weird thing ... on the one hand, I only use it professionally and I don't have it linked to any other social media account, on the other, it seems a little boundary-blurring. I might have used it before for a new opportunity but not now! (I'm not actively looking, just open to something good if it comes my way). I generally don't trust any social media privacy so I guess that's what unnerves me a bit, I dunno. I just like to keep things separate.
I don't agree. You use Linkedin to network with folks outside your normal work environment. You should have sufficient interaction on the job. The only time I'd add a boss would be after I no longer work for him/her.
This is really kind of how I see the negative of connecting with a boss. Can't work be enough time? Also I have family members in my network. I hid my connections so only I can see them. I think it's only fair not to violate my family members' privacy.
I agree I could get tricky especially if you put open to new opportunities on your profile or suddenly update your profile your boss could accuse you of seeking other employment.
So. It is only tricky depending on your relationship.
