It all depends on you and where you work. If you can't stop yourself from sampling the products or accepting drinks from customers and work in a low-life tavern on the wrong side of town then you might make plenty of tips but lose yourself in the process! Stay sober, work in a decent area in a decent place with decent customers who tip nicely and regularly and you can do very well.

Hint: I didn't allow my bartenders to drink on the job although they could have a "shift drink" when everything was done. They learned the polite way to refuse a drink while on the job (blaming it on the boss's rules was easy and evoked sympathy!) but they always made out well as the customer would increase the tip accordingly,

A comfortable "neighborhood" place where you have regulars is, in my opinion, way less hassle than a pass-through visitor's hangout. Good luck!

Sorry I did not get back yesterday, just wanted to know how committed to the field you are, quite and investment in money and time.
The few tenders I know work under the table..... Why not get a job in a hospital that is off hours and start getting your name into the pool?

well you did say you just graduated college a year ago, so i think it was fair to assume you were a little bit younger and more confused about life. a lot of kids at that stage don't realize that their first "real" job isn't going to be all ponies and rainbows.

Well good luck to you but I don't think you have researched your new field that carefully..you realize you can't work when you are going to school for PA correct?

I start school in July..going into the medical field ( not nursing) and I was told about 100 times I cannot work or I'll flunk out...

I don't understand. Who is telling you that you can't work or you'll flunk out? Surely the ability to take classes, study and work a part-time job is subjective and depends entirely on the individual's ability.

Most medical field classes are 8am-4 ( or 3)...M-Thursday..after a couple months you will start clinicals..so when will one have time for studying and a job? Some people may be able to do it..but personally I'm not..I'm not about to flunk out. Also some programs now are not accepting less than a B. If you get a C..you are on academic probation next time done.

OK, now I understand - it's subjective.

Well it was also stressed to me not to have employment while attending school..

My cousin who is in school to become an RN-had to sign a contract stating she will not work and if she does her chances of failure will skyrocket...and she will still be liable for the cost.

Plus not everyone is brilliant
