At this point, having a job is a major matter in life for many. Without one, many will face dire futures.
As for those who make it their life...some people in this world actually really enjoy what they do. Some people have a job that is exactly what they want to be doing in this life and I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys what they are doing.
I also don't begrudge anyone who drives whatever car they want to drive. Who cares.
Those "team" building exercises are such...well, they are laughable and annoying and don't fricken work but if you want to keep your job, you should probably pretend along with everyone else.
I don't care to make friends at work. I don't go to work to find friends. IF I make friends at work, that's fine but I don't go out of my way to do that. HOWEVER, I will participate in b.s. like potlucks because, again, if you want to keep your job, you should just go ahead and participate in some of these things. Some people enjoy them, why rain on their parade? If you don't like them, don't participate, but again, no need to be a sour mouth for everyone else who is having a nice time. (Having said all of that, I do make sure I watch for who made what because I know some people do not wash their hands after going to the bathroom and I can't help but think about that when looking at the food they brought.)
If people want to put up pics of their kids, who cares. I put up photos of my pets. But, there is a line to be drawn. I have heard about everything I ever want to know about childbirth to the point I know for a FACT I do NOT EVER want to go through that! Embarrassing things, painful things, (I'm talking long, long, long needles), all the mess.....eeeeeeesh. And I have heard stories of the aftermath, like a C-section...DESPITE THE FACT I DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW THAT! So, put up pics of your kids, that's nice. You can even gloat when little Johnny does something spectacular, but please, stop talking about your "difficult pregnancy" or "child birth" because you can traumatize people with that. I will agree with OP on this one.
The rest...why do you feel the need to compare yourself with what others are doing? If you're so happy where you are, it wouldn't matter what others do.
Maybe I'm just weird but I don't understand why a majority of people act like a job is your life.
No, I don't care if you work 55 hours a week and I don't; please don't expect me to work like a dog simply because you sold your soul to some Sugar-Daddy employer.
No, I don't care if I climb the corporate ladder; ladder climbing can hurt like a ***** when you fall off it (especially if you're on the top or near it).
No, I don't care about the workplace politics. I don't care about what drama the CEO had this week at the meeting...and no, I don't care whether he hates my guts or not.
No, I don't care if everyone else at the company hates me as well. **** them. Most of them are complete morons anyways.
No, I don't care our stock goes to hell. Most stocks nowadays aren't worth toilet paper. I've always lived the cheap life so it's just a breather if you lay me off due to the economy collapsing (as it does every other year).
No, I don't care about all the 'employee empowerment' and 'team building' exercises you try to put me through. Everyone knows it's brainwashing. And take down those Motivational posters too before I throw **** at them.
No, I don't care if I am working the same job 5 - 10 years in a row. If I am happy where I am at, there's no need for me to stress out.
No, I don't care if you think my workload is too easy or not. WHy should I do your work and someone else's?
No, I don't care that you drive some Honda/BMW/Lexus thing to work. You look like a clown driving it.
No, I don't care that you think I'm not a leader. If you want a leader, go look for Optimus Prime (or Megatron depending on your demeanor.)
No, I don't care that you had a baby and you're bringing pictures and videos of your Hellspawn to work. Do us a favor and jump down the elevator shaft.
No, I don't care if your work clothes are the latest in Yuppie wear. You don't look sophisticated or smart, you look like Dilbert in drag and 100 lbs heavier (and your head reminds me of a Jack O Lantern)
No, I don't care for your wierd music you play in the office. That **** makes me want to hang myself, I'd rather listen to my sister's bunga bunga rap music instead of that.
No, I don't care if you think I say "I don't care if" too many times.
And no, I do NOT care for your Three-Mile-Island biochemical disaster that you call a potluck. If I were an inspector I'd have the building condemned just for THAT.
Live free or Die!
I know...I'm having my period tonight as well... it shall pass...

You've got me confused with someone else. I have never stated that ALL are entitled to a job because simply that will never be the case. In a working economy there will always be some portion of unemployed individuals. And what classifies minimum pay jobs? Why would I (the unemployed) complain about the need for qualifications for these minimum pay jobs? Wouldn't it be the other way around..?
Um, that sounds like a lot to me too! Having worked mostly in union/public jobs, that's never even been a possibility for me... and I like having a healthy work-life balance, as long as I'm making enough to cover my expenses. So I guess in that sense, I do agree with the OP. Aside from that, however, he (she?) seems like kind of an angry person.
But money basically is. So if you aren't intelligent enough to figure out a way to get scratch on your own, well...enjoy ramen noodles and limited life experiences.
