And before anyone responds to tell me to move, I just renewed a new lease and don't have moving expenses. I posted this thread to see if anyone is situated like this where they can't move but see jobs they are qualified for in cities that are 2 hours away?
Philadelphia has it's strong periods but NYC craiglist posts a job I would be interested in everyday. Wonder what the unemployment rate is in NYC and baltimore?
Anyone see lots of jobs in other cities that are close by but you are in no position to move?
Not sure what your background is, but the Baltimore area is great for *some* types of jobs... mainly government contracting that's mostly defense. If/When Sequestration hits, this state's economy will have its back broken, IMHO.
As for me, there are definitely other areas of the nation with far more mechanical engineering job postings, but they are also in very different industries (automotive, aircraft, locomotives, etc.), so I'm not really a good candidate for them. Sure, I could learn the trade, but companies aren't looking for people like that these days. I occassionally apply out of curiousity, but nothing comes of it. I went into defense work since they were hiring a lot of people at the time... I never expected it to turn out so badly or to be so narrowly pigeon-holed as an engineer! Ah, well... that's life, I guess.
Oh, one other point to keep in mind - I don't know what field you're in, but based upon what I've heard, I'm not sure I'd consider Craigslist a valid measure of what jobs exist in an area... supposedly, a lot of jobs posted there are fake. Just something to consider.

Any craigslist ad with a email included to send your resume and cover letter is normally a real ad.
I know it's 2 hours each way but those places are not going to interview anyone from Philly
You can't say that for certain. If your skills are especially top-notch such that you're a prime candidate for an out of state job then there's a very good chance of being called for an interview. But since you've said over and over again that you won't consider any kind of commute over a short bus ride from where you live and you're not prepared to relocate, I'm not sure why you even started this thread.
