Hey folks, I interviewed for a job at a construction company in their HR dept. I am over half way to my BA in HR, but most of my background is in maint. and safety. They wanted someone with minimal experience for the HR position, and all of the other candidates were over qualified (Or so I was told).

The interview went great, and they seemed to really like my safety background. I seemed to fill every square that they were looking for, and they even shared the benefits that the company offered. (THEY brought it up, I didn't). I was certain that I had the job. Well, long story short, I was called today and told that I wasn't selected for the job, but the good news was that they would like to see about getting me into a safety role at their company. As far as I know there's not a position open in that deptartment for them, but I could be wrong. They are supposed to hand my resume to the safety manager for further review. I have never been told yes and no at the same time. I would enjoy being back in safety, but I'm wondering how much hope I can put into this "possible" postion?

You have to realize, a lot of places don't even bother calling you back. If they're calling you to tell you about another position, they are seriously considering you for it. I think you should keep looking because they haven't officially offered you a position yet, but be on the lookout for a call from them.

Just because you don't know of an open position it doesn't mean that there isn't one. It sounds like they really liked you or you would have gotten a regular TBNT or silence.

A friend of mine just applied for a job at a local business. They called her and told her that they had a different job that wasn't posted that was a newly created position that they'd like to interview her for--it was a better fit for her experience. She was the only one they interviewed. She got the call on a Monday, interviewed on Tuesday, second interview on Wednesday, job offer on Thursday.
