So I have been working at a company for almost six months. My boss has told me that I am doing a terrific job and has talked to me about my future and what not. She is usually very friendly and warm. However last week she has been distant and somewhat cold ( she works in another city so our communication is through email and phone usually). She keeps things very short in the last week. She also hasnt been answering some of my emails, not all but some. Is this a sign of something?

There is a backstory, and I have learned my lesson for good. A coworker of mine is my boss's best friend but works in another department. We really weren't dating but it was going there. Then a few weeks ago me and my coworker had a falling out at a company party. I came off as an ******* (kind of acted like one). I am wondering if my boss has found this out and his reacting to this? My boss wasnt present for it.

Or

My boss has also been under a lot of stress lately and has a lot on her plate, both at work and in her personal life. Could that be it? Should I be worried? Like I said my boss has constantly praised me and this behavior started only a week ago.

I'm betting that she's just busy. Don't sweat it and don't take anything personally when it comes to your work life.

Sounds like it's something going on in her life. If you are really worried about it, find a good time and ask her if there is something wrong. That will give her an opening if she is actually mad or upset with you. Be ready with an explaination in that case.

Most likely it's just that she is busy and has something else on her mind, so start with that assumption first and only ask her if she is mad as a last resort.

She wouldn't tell you if you asked.

But I've found over the years that whatever it is, it's most often about something the boss is going through, and not about you.

My guess is that there are things going on in her life right now that are more important to her than you.

It's a toss-up in my opinion. For your sake, let's hope it's all to do with what's going on with her and not to do with your little mess-up.
