I had worked for my last boss for 10 years and, when he retired, he totally surprised me with a round trip ticket to see my family in England who I hadn't had a chance to visit in several years. Were it not for his generosity I would have missed seeing my father one last time. He passed away a few years later.
My father sold off his business. He found all of his employees a new job and offered a small bonus ($100 I think), but he never did anything this generous. He was never super loaded either though. His business was a mid sized trucking company. All in all a good tale and I am sure my father would have loved to have done this.
That is a amazing man he sound's like a dream boss.
Agreed.
From what I understand based on the article, he gave EVERY employee $1,000 for EVERY year they worked for him.
So the woman who was there since 1966 got a bonus check of $46,000, in addition to what she's normally paid.
That's really amazing.
The location where this happened and the type of business the owner ran (car dealership) just makes it even more amazing, given that the Detroit area has ESPECIALLY been struggling economically for a while now with the auto industry nearly going bankrupt.
I wish that man nothing but the best in his life, I hope he has a great life and enjoys his retirement. It sounds like he valued his employees and I am sure that his employees knew that about him and actually respected him.
I wish more people were like him, and I am not just saying that because of the bonus checks at this point just sitting everyone down and telling them they were a good employee would have been great.
