But seriously, even with gov't jobs, right now is not the time to be taking long breaks before a new job. Its a lot easier to cut a position when there's no one there. And this is coming from someone who considered a 3 month break between jobs...
But even then, EVERY job I've started, they HR dept say they NEED me right away. I get there and its dead. One time, my boss was TDY for a month.

I think a employer should atleast give the person a week before they expect them to start whether they are employed or not. If the job is offered on a thursday or friday, the start date should be the Monday after
