Cognitive Dissonance at the Work Place
Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term describing the uncomfortable tension that may result from having two conflicting thoughts at the same time, or from engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's beliefs, or from experiencing apparently conflicting phenomena.
Am I the only employee experiencing this?

Cognitive Dissonance
Well, I worked for the gummint for quite a while... It's a miracle I'm not completely bald.
Seriously, no, it's not just you. I finally quit my last job for just that reason. The program and the practice were so completely out of synch I couldn't take it anymore. I wasn't the only one, either. Of the civilians in the place I worked, there was about a 60% annual turnover rate.
That's poor management, no matter what angle you're looking at it from.

If I was involved in something conflicting with my beliefs, I would try eventually to get out of it. I don't think it's healthy in the long run.
I've often felt 'out of place' with my job though. The environment at most companies thought seems very artificial with ab artificial set of rules and values. That, in itself, can be highly disassociating.

Hey...didn't know there was a name for it! A big shocker for me was finding it at a non-profit. So I guess it's everywhere...

I experience this daily. I work with aggressive types who want to secure themselves by pushing out any competition or making their coworker look bad. One in particular gloats if I make any mistakes.
