Ya know folks, Corporations started doing this many, many, many years ago to avoid having to pay for health insurance..
This is not a new thing and of course we are hearing about it alot more because of the elections..
It's like the unemployment numbers going down and people screaming about fudged numbers..
It happins every year around this time because of seasonal workers being hired, the numbers will go back up after January or so...
Nobody ever seems to remember this though.. and of course once again it's a big deal because of elections..
It’s game playing in an attempt to not pay anything.
One of the problems I see for the future is the health bills will still need be paid at some time; companies that are attempting to get out of paying now may be slammed in the future (poss. with higher taxes). The low quality attitude that permeates between government-companies will eventually constipate everything. Even if Romney is elected his ability to remove Obama care would be difficult and time consuming from other needed areas, perhaps business and government need to work to make a poor system work better then sitting around tossing Molotov cocktails at each other (from a anti-Obama care person).
You guys do realize the fine is $2000 per employee. A medium sized company with 7000 employees would be fined $14,000,000. Therefore, it's probably cheaper for them to just provide the health insurance since they get bulk rate discounts on it. I doubt companies will stop providing health care. For low wage positions, you should be mad at the greedy corporations that don't want to take care of their workers not the pres for trying to make sure folks can get health care if they need it.
Even with companies getting bulk rate discounts on providing insurance, $2,000 a year per employee is still cheaper than providing insurance. My company gives us an annual accounting of everything they give us, including how much their portion of the health insurance costs. Mine is over $11,000 a year on their dime.

It's not only the "low wage" corporations that are doing it though. It's basically every single one. Profits are out of sight, they can afford the health care premiums.
Why should the employers pay for the health care to begin with? The only reason is that most people would rather drink, do drugs and **** the money on sneakers with flashing lights than buying health insurance for themselves. They will conveniently show up at hospital for emergency care.
Teaching people to be responsible is just too hard I guess.
How is this any different than the past? I worked at a grocery and they would give you just enough hours so that you weren't considered a full time employee and eligible for better benefits.

Heh.
Back in high school working in the fabulous restaurant industry, they used to pay us juveniles sub-minimum wage.
As long as work hours + school hours didn't total more than 40.

No this is certainly nothing brand new.
However, due to the new federal regulations, the situation is growing and may grow to encompass a lot of employer who previously did not do things that way.
If Obama is re-elected, our health care "worth" will be considered part of our income. (It'll be taxed)
So what's our goobermint gonna do then......reduce the minimum wage?
This...coming from the same government that promoted daily savings time.
It's like cutting off a piece of blanket from the top, then sewing it to the bottom.
Voila!
A bigger blanket!
Vote intelligently.
What year is that supposed to start?
