Okay, so I work in a call center and our seating is in rows. The person who sits next to me is super negative. I hate the job as much as anyone could hate it but I try to trudge through the day, do what I have to do, and get the job done right.

This guy is constantly putting other people (and the company) down, making juvenile remarks, will say something to me and when I turn to him and ask him what he said (because I was busy on a call) he'll say "what, what" and then do his "imitation" of a deaf person. He also has an "imitation" of a Jewish person -- and I've asked him to stop on more than one occassion because it comes off as being anti-semitic and it's NOT funny.

He and I used to be friendly but, as time goes on, he just gets worse and worse. This is a grown man we're talking about, not a 20-something 'kid'. I can't request that he or I be moved because there is absolutely nowhere else to put either of us. I can't even avoid him since we sit within a foot of one another and there is no wall blocking us.

Any suggestion????

Thanks.

If you think his remarks are out of line and he won't stop tell your boss.

How about you just answer the damn phone and mind your own business? Management hates people who constantly complain about trivial crap, trust me.

Go to HR. Otherwise totally ignore him...don't buy into his BS. Hopefully he'll target the guy on his other side.

Boss first, then HR. Or, if you have a confidential reporting line call that.

I was in the same situation awhile ago at a previous job. I know it's tough but unfortunately you have to deal with negative Nancy's at a call center. I just became so frustrated with my co worker one day that when I was done with my shift I told her if she hated everything so much that she should quit and move on with her life and I left. After that she wouldn't come close to me.
Was that the best way to handle the situation? No I admit it wasn't however it did eliminate the problem.

I have exceptional hearing; however, if you asked any of my past co-workers, they would tell you I'm hard of hearing.

There's a reason for that.
