I had to take a forced day of PTO on the 24th (Christmas Eve) and paid time off on the 25th (Christmas). I'll still collect the same amount on the paycheck but lose 8 hours of PTO. To me this isn't a big deal because I would take PTO on the 24th anyways.

Do you give up PTO/pay during the holidays?

I took the 24th off, although I believe the rest of the crew did the same. Of course, no work x-mas, and I took the 26th off. Gave me a nice stretch of time to travel back home to see the family. Glad the snow storm held off so I can have a nice drive back today

Xmas and NY are the only days that work is close and I get paid.

I chose to take a few extra days, but this was not forced.

I took the whole week off. I took PTO for 4 of the days and a personal holiday (we get 8 per year) for Christmas day. Christmas day is considered a normal duty day, so I am subject to recall to the office (even though I am out of state... I would be required to drive/fly back to work if recalled).

Both of my major consulting clients are closed over the holidays. The last day I worked was the 20th, and I will resume work on Jan 2.

Worked on the 24th and work was closed on the 25th. Took today as a vacation day.

At my job, there are 10 holiday days. I usually work 8-10 of those days. I worked Christmas eve, and christmas. I will work New Years Day.

I do get paid extra/overtime for working the holidays

My office closes from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1. We get paid holidays for 4 of the weekdays, and have to use vacation time for the other 2. For me, this is what I did this year:

Monday, Dec. 24: Office open, but I took it off and used a vacation day (as did most employees)
Tuedsay, Dec, 25: Office closed, paid holiday
Wednesday, Dec. 26: Office closed, paid holiday
Thursday, Dec. 27: Office closed, but have to use a vacation day
Friday, Dec. 28: Office closed, paid holiday
Monday, Dec. 31: Office closed, but have to use a vacation day
Tuesday, Jan. 1: Office closed, paid holiday
Wednesday, Jan. 2: Office open, but I took it off and used a vacation day (most employees work that day)

The boss made an executive decision to close the office on the 24th and make it a paid day off. Christmas was a paid holiday. Those are the only days I was off. About half the office was at work today.
