What do you guys and ladies think about the company you work for providing free lunch to employees once or twice a week.
I work for a software company which provides free lunch to all employees once a week -- they send menus around and we all get to pick what we want for lunch.....does this happen anywhere else or just at my place.
I am curious to know because all the other places I used to work at never had this free lunch policy....and also what do you think about this free lunch policy?

Amazing. I never worked anywhere they had a cafeteria, let alone free food. Oh, wait, at one job we got free food but we had to listen to the boss drone on and on (working lunches).
That's a Google thing. Great incentive, but it's probably cheaper than paying you your true value. Google even does breakfast but's over by a certain time, and most employees don't even take advantage of it, but I guess they don't have to with stock worth $600 a share.
We had that at a small company (~100 employees) I used to work for. Every other week they would have a company lunch. It was nice. However, then the industry dipped a little and they had to cut the lunches. The only downside of the lunch was the speech by the president of the company.
There are some companies here in Chicago that provide lunch. There's a bank that provides lunch for 25 cents. There is only 1 option per day but the chef is a goumet chef so the food is high end. Nice perk.

Hmmmm
It is a nice perk and I was just wondering why other or some companies do not adopt it.....it pretty much lets employees know someone appreciates their efforts.

Perk being the optimal word. While I would enjoy it, its kind of like touting dress down days- nice, but don't sell it to me as a benefit. Companies often throw out these bones and avoid real benefits.
Its also thought that by offering people free lunch, you diminish the chance that staff leave the premises and come back late. Kind of a benign control of sorts.
Still, ultimately harmless.
