I'm actually trying to decide this right now. For my own purposes, I'd choose 4 10's, but I have kids to take care of and it makes more sense to be at work when they're at school. Our evenings are busy enough as it is. My choice isn't actually 4 10's, but 8 9's and 1 8 over 2 weeks.

I prefer the scheduling we have now:

Work 12.33 hours, (it's government, of course there's a .#, they can't round anything off), four days a week, get three days off and then the next week work three days a week and get four days off.

On the four day week, yah, it's long hours, over 40 but on the three day week, it's just a bit over 36.

I'll take it!!

It ultimately works out to working six months out of the year and having six months off. LOVE!
Sounds perfect!

Four ten hour days gives you an extra day off, but less time to yourself after work.
I always preferred a 50 hour per week schedule.
x 40 weeks per year.

5 10's worked best for me most of the time.
3 12's and 8 and a 6 if the work that week needed it.

The main objective is about having those 12 weeks off.

That objective is attainable.

I'd prefer to work 6 hours/day, 4-5 days/wk and get paid for 40 hours!

How about I just pull two all-nighters and take the rest of the week off? :-)

My vote is for four, four-hour days.

If that's not an option, and you have to punch a clock for 40 hours, then I'd choose four, 10-hour days.

Some of my friends work 9/80 schedule.

9/80 : 1 week of 8hrs/5 days, 2nd week 10hrs/4 days.

It's a great schedule, since you got a 3-day weekend every other week. It makes it much easier to run errands and set up doctor's appointments. You save your vacation days for real vacations instead of errands.

The company I work for does 80hrs/2 weeks like this:

M-Th 9 hr/day
Fri morning 4 hr

Fri afternoon 4 hr
M-Th 9 hr/day
Fri off

For me, 5 eight-hour days...IMO, 4 ten-hour days will only ultimately end up in burn-out...

In my personal humble opinion, the ideal work schedule is working 5 eight-hour days, *and also* on a flexible work schedule where the starting and stopping shift times can vary each day, based on the employee's daily preference. Meaning, you could potentially come in each day as early as 6 AM and work until 2:30 PM, or come in as late as 9 AM, and work until 5:30 PM, etc.

(This is the kind of schedule I am presently working, and I love it! )

ETA: FWIW, I do (and have) also worked many extra hours in the office for my employer, when needed...so they know that I definitely don't abuse the flexible work schedule that I am under.
