I think the only thing he did wrong was give his credentials to an outside source. That compromised company data (possibly industry secrets). Outside of that, I think he was a genius. Obviously the company was pleased with his work - excellent performance evaluations.

If he had made the code more of a black-box to his "3rd party programmers," there is little difference between him hiring a chinese developer to do the work and paying him a share of his money and his boss paying his developers to do work.

Almost a total genius! As the article stated he should have set up a proxy server at home for the Chinese contractor to use.

Interesting how a worker gets nailed for outsourcing his job and yet companies have already outsourced hundreds of thousands of jobs and are not held to the fire for it? Before you say "But he violated company security policies and that's why he was fired!" think about this. How many foreign nationals, on foreign soils have access to your whole financial history both past and current? How many have access to your medical records both past and present? What about your security? If you don't think this is happening then you had better remove your head from the sand and look around!

Well I guess he has no choice. Maybe he can't finished the deadline that's why he choose to outsource the work. But his big mistakes is outsourcing the work in china. There are lots of competitive country like India, Malaysia and special mention the Philippines.

Old news..

If I were the boss and caught that guy, I'd fire him and hire the Chinese guy for 30% higher than what he was paid prior.
