I worked at a software company for a year as a tech writer where virtually all the engineers were men, mostly married with kids/suburban house. They came in early, worked a bit, went for a long run, took showers, went for lunch, then maybe sat down and really worked after about 2p. They stayed way late, past family dinnertime, and talked a lot about how much they wished they had more family time, but even the happier ones seemed quite willing to hang around work and not be home with wife and kids.
Well not everyone aspires to marriage and children. Many of us are happily single and feel no
need to "catch up".
Of course! Didn't think I needed to specify something so obvious. My point was to let the OP know that the awkwardness will go away as others do what he has done.
