I am 50, educated, professional, licensed etc ad nauseum. I tried retiring a few years ago, and got bored and went back to work. My wife and I both work, have kids, we both have high paying jobs.

SO A few years ago, I tried to get a "dream job".....working at the baseball sstadium. I got as far as an interview the first time, never even a call back.
When we moved to Tampa, I wanted to work at a local amusement park during Halloween, little pay but lots of fun
No such luck.

I am not unhappy with what I do, but I have never had a low-stress fun job and as I am getting older, I want something fun to do at leat when I retire.

Perhaps I am over-experienced and over-qualified, as I have been told so often ?

30 year olds with 10 years' experience are overqualified for fun jobs! I think most people fall into this category. As for not being called or notified after an interview? Sadly, that's becoming more and more common. I would think ballpark jobs might be hard to get, since who wouldn't want to work there!

You may want to post your question again over on the retirement board, and see what folks there have been doing for fun jobs. Do you mean part time?

I know one retired man who got a PT job delivering flowers. Everyone likes to get flowers! Another guy got a job at a car dealership picking up parts from different places. I'd take my car there, and these guys also give people courtesy rides in the dealer van back to their houses/jobs. They liked talking to different people. Both jobs involved driving and some traffic, but seemed pretty low stress.

Did you tell them that you are retired and looking for a fun, part time job? Most of the employees at our local stadium appear to be 60+ retirees, they seem to be in favor with management. Maybe you are too young.

The positions you are applying for isgenerally un-skilled. Un-skilled equates to the most applied for positions. If there was a position for a game day field technical maintenance staffer, the number of applicants will be a lot smaller than game day ushers or other unskilled staff positions. It may just me a matter of 1,000 applications for every 1 position.

Don’t give up; just realize that you are just one of almost 'everyone' applying for those positions.

Your post is confusing. Do you want the fun job now or when you retire?

Educated, professional, licensed, etc. means nothing to the baseball stadium and thinking you are overqualified and over-experienced for that job is ridiculous thinking. If you interviewed at the stadium at 50 or under, they probably thought it was an in between job and you'd bolt if something else came along or they got so many applications that they chose someone else for reasons that have nothing to do with your qualifications. Seasonal stadium workers are usually hired before the season begins so they are not left in the lurch if people leave after play commences.

The baseball stadium wants people who are dependable, will show up every day on time (not hungover) and are pleasant to the guests. We have a ton of sports venues around here and I've been to just about all of them. From what I have seen, there are way more older people in those jobs. I would think that type of job is probably one of the most retiree-friendly ones there are: seasonal, gives the retiree something fun to do, the retiree enjoys the work and has other means to pay the bills because this job sure won't.

When you retire, apply for those jobs. If you don't get them though, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's because they think you are too experienced for them. It's more likely because they have so many applicants. Maybe they prefer college age kids because they need the money more than a retiree.

Your posts has a tinge of "I want a fun job but I'll probably never get one because I'm just way too good for that" to it. Not sure if you meant it that way or not.

You should write a cover letter (between 1 and 3 short paragraphs) that tells them why you want that job...that you retired from your professional career and moved to Orlando and have always wanted to work in the entertainment industry.

They might think you lost your job and are desparate for a paycheck but will quit when something better comes up. Which isn't the case. Convince them in the cover letter.

A fun job is like any other. You use connections to get one.

They might be passing you over in favor of people who actually NEED a job.
