Does taking a job below you damage your future chances?

oh man, don't you dare tell some people on this forum that luck is involved in any way shape or form in getting a job. don't you know that it is purely a case of the good people being rewarded and the bad people being punished?
And luck is something one has no control over. It's just the way it is (it just happens).
Look at Al Bundy and all the crap he went through, despite the fact that he wasn't a bad person and did MODESTLY right by others.
There are just too many different views on this topic; in the end it's just what the person wants. For me I've tried holding out for a job in my field but that means turning away lesser jobs. So far it's not really working out for me so I'm now open to a lesser job to survive and to cover the gap while I look for work in my field. In this economy, one must adapt and who knows it just may spin off into something that you've never thought of as a career path.
I don't think you should be looking to take a lesser job within the first 8 months. Now after that I will say still try and find a job that is different but has some things you like about it. Definitely don't take just any job just so you can close a employment gap.
In the end, you have to do what is best for you not what is best for potential employers. So if taking a lesser job is what is best for you for whatever reason than do it. Employers are only looking out what is best for themselves which is fine but you have to do the same for yourself. Some luck does play a role in getting jobs at least for me.

i am totally, totally being sarcastic just in case it's not coming across clearly enough.
No they will say you need to create your own luck. IMO, creating your own luck is all well and good but you don't always have the control to do so. IE: look at those who say become your own boss. Not everyone has the ability or resources to do just that. If you do, great do it and I hope you do well. Everyone else, you just have to try to work smarter during this job search which isn't easy to do. You have to know what keywords you need to put in your application, cover letter and resume, know if you should admit your degree or not and know if your experience is relevant enough or not to even apply and take the time to look at other opportunities.
Look what are your options? If you can afford not to work for a few more months then I would maybe suggest you give it a bit more time and see if you can find a job that suits you. If not then take the job. I don't think it will damage your chances of getting a better job along the line since everyone knows what the economy is like these days, I think a future employee will appreciate your struggle and the attempts you made at having a steady job.
Let me first say I am not talking down to anyone that has gone this route I just wanted to find out from hiring managers and HR if taking a job completely out of your field and much below your skill level will hurt you future chances for a good job.
So what do you think does it hurt my image for future employment or not?
Absolutely. I had to suppress the job I had before before people started calling. It wasn't wacky like stripper or bar hop.
