No, I never browse for jobs while at work. I have done it in the past, but I would do it discreetly by emailing the whatever I found to my personal account and then applying for the job later. I didn't want my co-workers to know when I was looking for other work.

Considering how easy it can be to be monitored on your computer at work, the risk of looking for another job while on the job is not worth it. Just use common sense.

I don't think they're talking about job-searching... the OP is asking how much time you spend on City-Data (doing anything) during the work day.

It depends. Somedays I am busy and don't get on much at all, other days I'm on a lot. I have a lot of down time sometimes. I would never neglect work to surf the internet, but sometimes I truly don't have anything to do. I'd prefer being really busy. It'd make the day go by faster.

Haha, yea, I misread it - thanks for pointing that out. Just simple browsing, OK. I would have chosen up to half an hour in the poll.

My work keeps me very busy, so I rarely have time to view more than headlines and check out a personal email or 2.

I do very little browsing at work for the same reasons, that you can be monitored and my work piles up. I have very little downtime to surf. In some previous jobs, I would probably surf no more than 30-45 minutes total at most. Trying to look "busy" is key.

I work healthcare and most websites are blocked. In my industry, only a fool would spend time browsing on the company server because of potential hacking and comprimisse of protected health information/patient data. I've known people to be fired. I can foresee most industries that care about the bottom line going this way. When I'm lucky, I have access to free wifi in some locations. Like today I'm on the Ipad.

My work flow is doctor driven. If they're busy than so am I. Some days I have HOURS between patients. Some days I don't get a chance to even sit down. But I estimate I browse about 3 hours a day when I have access.

On average, it seems like half the day, but I do my job well so whatever. Don't hate me LOL. I wish we could just do our work and leave, but it's frowned up here to leave before say 3:30. Stupid face time.

Depends. Sometimes I'm working towards a deadline and dont even take a lunch. Other times I have nothing to do and end up surfing for 3 to 4 hours.

What always baffles me is the people who joined several years after I did, but have literally up to 50x more posts. Even if you're retired, that's a LOT of time spent online here.

My thoughts exactly. I'm salary plus commision, meaning that the more I sell, the more I make - and if I'm posting here I'm not selling. Winning one of those contests would help offset the loss though.
