IT is brutal. Being competent and hard working matters only if you're the favorite. I've been in this place for over a year now and wanted to leave, but stayed because it's close to home and they made counter offer. I was placed on project I was always qualified for when I tried to leave. I worked nights and weekends, made the code cleaner and more precise, but was the quiet one and others took credit. I didn't want people looking bad. So now I'm asked to work on something I specifically said held no interest for me during the counter offer meeting. I'm hurt and tired. If I made more noise, complained about bad code, and made myself more visible, maybe they would have appreciated me more. Now I'm stuck and not sure what to do...Leaving again is very tiring.
You're 100% right. I made my bosses look good, but they left me in the dust. But some people still get appreciated, not me though. How do I change this pattern or is it myself?

Do you? Do you have private meeting with him on regular basis, monthly at least, to see what he wants you to focus on? Do you always keep him in the loop on things that you are working on? Do you seek his advise on how to approach things? Do you focus on things that he thinks it's important?
