For most of my working life I have been involved in the restaurant industry..
Back in November I was out of work and took a job as a "Direct Support Person"in a group home for developmentally disabled adults.. I am a caregiver and companion..
It's a full 40 hours in 4 days I'm having a very hard time finding something for those days off for some extra money..
I love the residents and the job is so easy I have almost become complacent to get paid so little to spend 25 hours a week at the mall or bowling or in the pool or watching the young and the restless... (Can NOT miss that).. I can.. They cant..
It's personally rewarding to me in ways that make my heart feel good.. Like helping out at Special Olympics.. I Had not stepped foot in a church in almost 2 decades.. Now I take 12 people every Sunday.. It makes me feel good..
I'm not sure if I could go back to doing the restaurant thing ever again after this...
Sometimes doing something that is good for your soul feels just as good as padding your wallet
That being said, maybe you could find a job at a restaurant working 1 day a week to supplement your income? If you really need to be making more that is

As I have wrote a few times in this forum, I honestly believe that every American should spend one month working in a restaurant. With that, I put in 16 years with the restaurant industry. Even though I met some of my best life-long friends working in that industry, and had many, many, good times, the day I left was 16 years too late. There are many things I miss about it, but I hope to never go back.
Restaurant work is definitely for the young. Maybe some waitresses, but people burnout of that stuff so fast, you never see anyone over 40 doing it usually.
To the OP, glad you have found your bliss. It's a good feeling, isn't it?
