The 'easy money' has already been made. It's quite difficult for the average person to truly get ahead these days, unless they are sociopaths willing to take advantage of others for their own gain, or good stock traders.
1. Get good education on something useful, engineering, medical, app science, MBA etc.
2. Be frugal and live below your means.
3. Don't have kids.
4. Be wise with your money and try to buy things that retain value or appreciate over time.
5. Don't get married unless you marry up or your spouse makes equal or more money.
6. Don't get divorced if you didn't follow #5.
7. Don't drink excessively, only socially.
8. Don't smoke, do drugs or participate in any other illegal activities.
9. Work hard but also work smart - know what your real job is.
10. Take out of the state or oversea work that pays well.
If you follow these, you should easily become a millionaire between 40-50.
Notorious BIG said, "You either sling crack rock, or you are born with a wicked jump shot". Something to that effect.
In a legal context, you either hustle like mad (mostly entrepreneurial) or you have some kind of innate talent you are born with that people are willing to pay you a ton of money for.

This. Most wealth in the United States comes from a family foundation. The "easy money" was made from the 1800s on, with individuals investing wisely or owning properties. It was also easier to manage small business back then, so wealth was accumulated and now is often invested in stocks, bonds or whatever else to generate enough interest. Also, doctors and lawyers tended to make more back then, and a lot of old rich lawyers/doctors started successful practices that would almost be impossible to replicate now.
Nowadays, if you're poor and looking to get rich, good luck. Law and medicine are no longer the ways, and small business is punished by both the government and the dominance of huge chains. To get rich, you already need to be rich. Your best bet is to get out of lower class and into upper middle (100-300k a year).

Something like 3/4ths of millionaires in this country are first generation and self made. The notion that all wealthy people inherit their fortunes is false.

Forgot one thing.
11. If you want to be married, make sure your spouse share the same traits (1-10) as you, particularly on being frugal and able to earn a good income.
