I agree. I worked in an older suburban part of Louisville before getting my current job in Virginia. Now my office is right in the heart of a very urban part of Arlington, VA (ironically a "suburb itself"). The big differences with the Arlington office is that there are a lot of lunch options I can walk to, a couple of nice parks I can shoot hoops during lunch I can walk to, a grocery store I can walk to, the train station is across the street so I can go into DC for happy hour straight from work. In Louisville, my office was a building just surrounded by and I had to drive everywhere.
As for the OP, I like sware2cod's idea of the commuter apartment or room. It is pretty popular in the DC area with people who commute in from other states or areas like PA, WV, Southern VA, etc.
Just find a suburban area near your employment that has people your age. Try any college town/ area or a "downtown" area of a suburb. They are usually a decent 1st start.
Haiti is just a location. You should move there. It would be soooo much cheaper!
Too many move to Haiti it will tip over ...
