I have applied to a few jobs and one of them listed social media sites ranging from
Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, Flickr, tumblr, etc.
I only put that I has my own website and youtube page since I'm not a member of the other sites. Do you think me only putting that I have 2 pages instead of ALL OF THEM will slim down my chances of getting this job?
The job did ask for a lot of other stuff too resume, cover, samples of your work, etc. I do have a ton of experience to back me up for this job so I think that would matter more than what social media sites I am a member of but in this day and age who knows anymore haha.
i wouldn't worry about it unless the job actually involves using all those social media.
lots of employers like to google applicants to see how they conduct themselves on social media, so asking for all your accounts may just be a way to save themselves some time.
Oh I see what you mean yeah I was also thinking what if they go with that though let's say they find someone with a thousand or a million followers on their network sites and go with them because of such a high rating? If I did make a social media account on those other sites I would be brand new at it.
Are you applying for social/new media or marketing jobs? If so, then yes, you should have all of those accounts and make sure you are using them properly and professionally. Feel comfortable sharing them with your employer. In fact, they should be in your portfolio.
If these are just jobs with a small social media part attached (office admin/manager type work, for example), then you should include all of your social media skills (if asked in the ad). If you don't know Twitter or Tumblr or some of the other sites mentioned frequently in job ads you are interested in, get and use them frequently. If you're emailing to a person, you might be able to get by with less skills. However, if you're sending your resume through any of those resume management systems, it's likely being scanned against the keywords of the job ad. You want to make sure you're comfortable with as many of those skills as possible.
