What do you guys make of this? I'm a contractor/temp at a company and the contract has no set end date. I got my first unofficial review and was told something along the lines of "we see potential in you" and they also told me not to worry that my contract would end at the end of 2013. They thought I might have suspected my contract would end then because specific my product that I work on will be discontinued then (but they'll switch me to a different product).

Well it's better than criticisms but still leaves you wondering.

If there are no specifics, it does not mean anything. Ask for specifics/feedback.

Don't lose hope. They could be sincere. Just don't expect too much. But I really think they don't want to lose a talent such as yours.

BS.. if they really saw potential (and it mattered to them), they'd renew your contract!

It's a good sign, but you can't take that to the bank.

If you don't mind working on a contract basis and are comfortable with the relative insecurity, I would keep doing what you are doing.

If they don't pay you well enough to make up for the lack of security, I would look fr a permanent position, but I say that not asked upon your review, but upon my personal preferences.

I'm always one to say that they should put their money where their mouth is. I've been burned too many times by these empty promises. Now, its good they're extending your contract. However, I would still be on the lookout for a better opportunity. If you get something full-time and/or better paying, go for it. At the very least, you can use that as leverage to force their hand down the road.

It means you should go in and continue to do your job and not worry what was meant by the statement.
If there is a meaning attached you will find out when the employer is ready to tell you.
