Ack, you shouldn't have told your current employer until you have a written offer in hand.
I agree to not delay the start date for your current employer.

Yeah, I know, I know. they want me to stay around if the offer falls through, so no huge worries there. I only said anything because of vacation schedules, and if I waited until I had the offer, which I expect today or tomorrow, no one would be here to give my 2 weeks notice. They do know it is a tentative offer pending the formal offer from HR department.

I have no idea what to do. I don't want to burn bridges at my current employer, but I also am ready to move on.
I would definitely ask them for a formal written offer asap. I don't think I'd be willing to quit a current job based on only a verbal offer. Assuming they get the offer to you, then I don't think I'd be willing to delay the start date anymore. That's almost a month away. They'll just have to figure out what to do without you.

Agree, get that written offer ASAP. And you don't ask to delay the start date again, your company will survive without you.

Once you get a written offer and a start date is agreed upon it is time to get on board with the new company, as long as you give two weeks notice it is not your concern how they take up the slack until they replace you.

And since the OP already spilled the beans about leaving, no one will be shocked and there must be SOMEONE in the office you give your written notice to.

But don't ask for another delay.
