Sometimes my boss can be so odd at times I just don't get it! Yesterday I was talking to a customer from Seattle about homeless people who had taken couches and lived under a bridge to which I kind of laughed and I made the comment if you are homeless I guess you should live it up. My boss overheard that and announced that I should not glamorize the homeless and in fact one stole his wallet A couple of days before that he threatned to fling the window washer man right off our door if he washed it again while we were open and I thought that was very rude. This was from a man that told me that I was innapropriate to ever use the word gay since he was gay??? Is this normal or what....sometimes I don't know what to expect from this guy.

A lot of bosses want to be quirky and unpredictable, because precisely, they don't want you to read them.

Some people do not converse well. Avoid conversations around him that aren't work-related, and it may cut down on these incidents.

He sounds like he's a bit off.

Like LOL_Whut, said, I'd avoid non-work-related conversations within earshot of him.
