Whenever you hear someone say that they received their masters in urban planning and design and now work as a planner/designer for a design company. What is the first thing that springs to mind that the person does?
Also, what would be an urban planner's peer profession? The professions closely related.
Someone who revamps life into a blighted urban community so that hipsters and yuppies can buy the property and bring in new business and better urban neighborhoods.
-- If they're using their degree -- a person who works in some level of government or for a developer or construction firm or architectural firm....MAYBE real estate or social work...or heaven help us "community organizing."
I don't know a whole lot about urban planning. However, I would think an urban planner would work in city planning doing zoning, transportation, landmark, business, and/or recreation planning. I would think their non-governmental peers would be corporate planners who do large projects for cities/towns/businesses.
