I had a weird situation come up today. I had a call come in at the same time I was texting and answered it accidentally. I turned out to be the HM for a well paying SV job that I am interested in. He wanted to speak then and I told him I had an appointment. He said his name so fast and with a bad cell connection I couldn't get it?

I was hoping it was his work number so I could call after hours and get his name but reverse white pages says cell no luck.

It's a good size company so I could make an educated guess off of linkedin.

I was thinking of e-mailing the recruiter and asking her and just explaining the faux pas but that seems risky. People get offended when you don't know their name esp when you are the HM?

My only other choice is just to call when expected and introduce myself?

Your thoughts?

Go with the recruiter unless you're sure about the Linked In info. I'm sure he/she will understand. I was called by HR to be screened for a job I applied for...was busy shopping and not all there mentally lol. I know she told me her name but my cell fuzzed out at the same time so I don't know what it is. Luckily she's passing me along to the HM to see if he wants to interview me.

Get your LinkedIn best guesses and just call and introduce yourself at the scheduled time. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Did you try just googling the number? I know that if you google my cell number, my name and contact info come up from some industry registration thing a few years ago.

Use LinkedIn to search and if that does not pan out, call the recruiter. The recruiter is a "buffer" between you and the HM/firm.

Thanks I just double checked and it just says ATT wireless. I will probably just go with a confident positive intro of my name and let him respond, and write it down quick.
