I've been trying for over a year to break into the field of HR by applying to many low entry level positions like HR assistant and HR representative. I've gotten far in interviews only to have them choose someone with far more experience than I have for a low paying HR job. I guess it's that bad out there huh? Maybe I'm just having bad luck. I graduated in January with a Bachelor's in Business Management, I regret it because I should've concentrated on HR but it was too late.

Anyways, I've been trying to find internships and it's hard to find or they don't reply back to me. Most are unpaid. Today I accepted a part time unpaid position as a Recruiter for a small staffing agency for 3 months. If they need/like me I have the chance to get hired. It's a small business with like 8 people but they've been around for 14-15 years. My duties are recruiting and networking with their clients but also involve some HR tasks. Very casual environment.

I was really hoping that this internship I start Monday will help me break into HR because I keep getting denied jobs because of a lack of experience. Do you think a 3 month internship would help me get an entry level job in HR?

Some hope: I know two guys; both certified in some type of tech field, I forget what type. One has a good job and the other is struggling. I asked the guy with the good job "What are you doing different that john smith isn't doing?" He told me he took on two unpaid internships and a few temp jobs that were low pay but related to his position. He said that he invested in experience which helped him a lot.
^^With this story in mind, I hope that it would be the case for me.

I think it would help, it shows you have initiative, and will also increase your knowledge in the field. I have a friend who was trying to get into drug and alcohol counseling but couldn't even get an internship...so he applied as a volunteer. Once an internship opened up, he was the one who got it. I think employers like to see things like this.

Thanks for sharing that little story with me. It gives me some hope. I've been pretty sad about how my career hasn't even started but I still haven't given up.
