Hello everyone,

I have a question, and this has probably been asked before but I want to make a new thread because everything changes with time. So I thought I'd ask this anyway. I recently got a job, after being unemployed for four years. I am so happy I got it. Its seasonal and part time but I am only getting 4 hours, two days a week not even two because the second day I have to call in an hour before I'm supposed to be there? Is there any laws about them having to let me know if I'm working, more than an hour before my schedule? So I am only getting 4 hours, one day a week. And the pay is bi-weekly. And in your opinion should I look for something else, because nobody can live off of 4 hours? Also, this company I'm working for the brand representatives only get less then 20 hours? What's up with that, and everyone else gets more like 30 hours? Thank you, for your help in advance.

You have to decide if working a 4hour week in a seasonal position is enough for you or not.

Being on-call is done with many many companies, especially during the holidays. You're basically just a fill-in type person. 1hour advance notice is usually the norm.

I wouldn't even take a job working 4 hours a week; that's not worth leaving the house for. At this time of year there should be seasonal jobs that give you more hours. I guess you can put down this 4 hour a week job as current experience and maybe use it to get a job that is going to give you more hours. I would be looking for another job every day. Four hours a week is an insult--not a job.

Okay, thank you for your information. This is my first retail job, so I don't know all of the ins and outs yet. I just wanted to get some experience in retail because that seems to be where all the jobs are nowadays. And I thought I would be getting more than 4 hours.

If I knew it was only going to be 4 hours I probably would not have taken it, but I did not find out what my hours were going to be until I started working. And I agree with you, it is an insult and that's why I wanted to get other peoples opinions to see if I am in the right or in the wrong. And I have been looking for another job. And I have two job interviews coming up in the next couple of days.
