How many days in a year are employers, workers etc allowed off for holiday breaks, public holidays etc.
In New Zealand we get 4 weeks plus stats which are{Easter,Xmas, labour day etc.} adds up to about 5 weeks for a year, this is compulsory.
Also what is minimum wage in the states. In NZL $12.50 an hour. For students slightly less although student wage will be minimum $12.50 soon though.

I get 2 days at Thanksgiving, 2 days at Christmas, New Years Day, Labor Day, July 4th, and Memorial Day. I get 2 weeks vacation and 6 personal days a year. Total days 24.

At my last job we got all that except 12 personal days and MLK Day, too. Total days 31.

After 5 years, vacation time goes to 3 weeks.

I don't know what minimum wage is....$5.something. I doubt we have many folks working for that. It's so low. Illegals make more than that.

I get 15 days off a year of personal time and then some holidays; New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. So a total of 21 days a year. The minimum wage in Illinois is $7.50 per hour

kiwi
here is a link that shows the different minimum wages for all the states.
Jut click on the state and it will show the amount.
Many have increases set to begin Jan 1 2008
The amounts vary Kansas is the lowest at $2.65
and a couple states don't have minimuns

As far as the "time off" every company has different plans.
bank or federal employees will have different days off than someone working at a company.

The Federal govt sets the minimum wage (currently $5.85) and cities and states can vote to go higher. The $2.65 in Kansas is probably for a tipped employee.

Some companies give a certain number of sick days and some will give personal days that can be used whenever.

5 Dollar minimum wage, in some states maybe 6 or 7? Wow that's few. If you work 40 hours per week, that would make 800 Dollars a month and then you have to pay taxes, insurance, rent food... How can you live off that? My 16 year old sister worked for H&M this summer and made 7.50 Euro per hour (I think it's about 10 Dollars), and she has no experience whatsoever. I can't imagine anyone really gets paid 5 dollars per hour in the US, except maybe school kids.
