I'm going on my third year now being a retail store manager and I am looking at building the skills necessary to advance my way out of the store level. For those of you that are district managers now, what was your path like?
My current company has no district manager training program. I have met three district managers in my current company and all of three of them were outside hires. My previous company had a DMIT program for a few store managers that were deemed qualified to enter it each year. Did you work your way into being a multi-unit manager through a training program or did you obtain enough experience at the store level to enter directly into being a district manager?
