I am happy to say that my new resume is getting some attention, and has caused an interesting... dilemma.

I have a chance to get an 8-5 job that offers $5 more per hour (I miss the good old days of salary) than I currently make, BUT...

I have decided to streamline my job search in a new field, and I had taken on some volunteer work that would be a great resume builder for my new venture. I am also pursing an educational certificate that will open more doors for me after completion next summer.

The clincher is, my current hourly job allows me the freedom to continue the community service resume building endeavor with no problems. The 8-5 higher paying job wouldn't allow me that freedom.

So... should I take the higher paying job to get me by (I could use the money) or continue to tighten my purse strings and continue the community service work (which I REALLY enjoy) and build the resume?

Look long term. What do you need more? What will having the experience on your resume mean to you in the long term? Will you be able to get more than a $5 her hour raise after you get the new resume experience?

The resume building community service work will definitely prove beneficial in the long run. It just means that things will become REALLY tight financially for the next six months if I don't take the higher paying job now.

The thing is, the higher paying job would simply be that... a JOB. I have no intentions of staying in that industry. So... it looks like my only other alternative would be to take a second hourly job that offers the freedom of more flexible hours to supplement my meager income over the next few months in hopes of gaining employment in my field of choice later.

...and even though I don't get paid for the volunteer work, I really enjoy it and could see myself still offering my time and resources doing it even after I get over this unemployment to under employment hump.

So now the question is, how the heck am I going to work 60 hours a week AND volunteer AND go to school? YIKES!!!

Honestly, I'd just take the higher paying job. In a different economy, I'd give you different advice.
