Hello I am 26 years old.. I have NEVER had a job. I have been applying for a job since I was 18 years old and I have only received two interviews. They went well until the employer discovered I had no identification.

That is my problem.. my whole life until about 6 months ago I had no documentation to prove I was who I say I was. I would go to the department of licensing almost weekly from the ages of 18-25 with the few documents I did have practically begging them for either an ID or an answer on how to get one.

I am not a lazy drug user.. I don't sleep all day.. I don't play video games.. the only electronic I actually have is this old laptop I am typing on now and a flip phone.

My Father was taking care of me until he passed away in 2012 leaving me with a little bit of money. The house we lived in was rented and I could not afford it. I was able to find an apartment, albeit a low income one. The only reason I was able to get it was because the landlord was willing to work with me even though I had no identification.

I started selling all and any personal items when my money began to run out and it has sustained me so far. Strangely my Father passing away left me with multiple documents including vehicle titles in my name which allowed me to get an identification card.. finally.

The problem is I am 26 years old.. I have no high school diploma or GED.. and have never had a job. I have applied again to multiple places hoping to find a job to ANYWHERE.. including fast food restaurants.. but there is a gap in my applications and resume and I haven't even received a single phone call.

Obviously I will keep trying but my situation truly is unique. I have not come across a single person who has had even a similar situation. Many people tell me I am not trying hard enough.. with all due respect.. you have NO IDEA how hard I have tried.

I was taking bus after bus.. walking mile after mile.. to different DOLs.. different places where I tried to get jobs.. WorkSource places.. Social Security offices.. it was honestly the most stress inducing situation I could possibly think of.

Now with my ID.. I feel like I am in the same place. If I had my ID when I was 18.. my life would be a lot further along. But the United States of America.. for 7 years.. refused to acknowledge me as a U.S. citizen.. and refused to help even though many DOL workers admitted to me it was a catch-22.

Most the documents they required.. you needed an ID to get.. it was exhausting.. and depressing.

I can't tell employers this story.. it just sounds like an excuse.. because anybody I talk to believe I just didn't know what I was doing.. which is a mistake.

What should I do now? How can I get a job without experience? Have you ever known anybody who wasn't an illegal citizen that has gone through something similar? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Go to the media and they can help you through the red tape to get you identified and get a state issued identification card. The story is so unique that if true, no media outfit will turn you story away on something this weird.

I apologize if I didn't make it clear that I DO have an identification card finally. My dad passing away gave me multiple documents with my name on it.. documents I wouldn't have been able to receive otherwise.

Right now I am looking for advice on how to get a job without experience.. most people with no experience are lazy drug users or suffer from social anxiety or depression. I am neither of those things. I watch drug addicts get help from the Government but I don't want to be handed money.. I would prefer to be handed a job.

I guess I am just looking for advice on how to get a job so late in the game. Should I tell employers my story? Do you think it would matter?

It's pretty embarrassing to not even be able to get a call back from a fast food restaurant. I just feel a little hopeless.

Thank you very much. I didn't realize I was a competent writer. I was home schooled all of my life which contributed to my lack of documentation.

What happened to your birth certificate? And it's been years now that they issue your social security number at birth.

I'm sorry. I don't believe your story. Home schooled or not, you have a birth certificate and a social security card. Most states also require parents to register as a home school. That would create enough records to get an ID.

How do you think teenagers get ID to work part time jobs?

erm lets say you were in a cryo chamber for 10 years and all your documents were burnt in a fire

you can get on the internets and order a birth certificate and receive it in a few days by supplying some basic info and paying like $15-20

from there you can take your b cert to the dmv and get an id

with the id you then go to long john silvers and apply for a job

so on and so forth
