There was a lot of this type of attitude after the massive layoffs during the housing collapse in 2008. Many were laid off and did not want to take jobs that were "beneath" them. Many of them learned from the hard truth that work is work. The smart ones took what they could get, from lawn service to dish washing, you need a roof over your head at night. Sure it sucks, but it is what you have to do in the time of need.

Either suck it up and take a low job to live or go in debt to live a pipe dream. Working a low paying job should motivate you to keep on looking while you work that low wage job.

Never take a loan (I doubt they even have those available) to get by and apply to jobs. Not worth it.

I had some yards sales when I was completely broke. Had a sign saying, no gas to get to interviews. I HATED begging for gas money! I think most people don't want to do this, don't do it.There is just no way that is for me and I am not envious of people making money this way.

The thing is my credit is poor, and I have no cosigners either.
You can always stay at the YMCA or a homeless shelter -- that would cover basic living expenses until you got a job. I would if I were you start taking any kind of work you can -- don't wait for an official job but mow lawns, do yard work, clean stables, do welding, anything until you can get a paying job.

I've applied to a number of grocery stores, fast food places, restaurants, and warehouses. I had a few interviews, but I wasn't the one chosen. I don't even ask for a penny above minimum wage.

Actually there is a serious problem in my city in regards to shelter for men. They are supposedly going to build new facilities, but not in time for my deadline.

What are some tips for getting those odd jobs? That said, I currently live in an apartment and have no lawn mower, nor do I have a car, just a human powered bike.

Temp agency...they will get you out the door and working. Cut grass, collect aluminum cans, do what you have to do to get some cash.

Oops, you are right. But a labor agency would beat not working.
