I get a lot of rep points and private messages telling me how much they like my thought provoking posts.
If I didn't already send you a private message saying we all know it's serial accounts, made up stories, and looking for attention, I meant to do that.
Do you have any advice for my relative (nephew)? She graduated in 2008, the start of the Economic Crisis. Her degree was in Sociology. Her plan when she was in college was to just get a good Liberal Arts Degree from her nice $50K a year small liberal arts college and then when she graduated she would get a management trainee position at some large company.
Well since she graduated she sent out over 1000 resumes and applied online at countless places and nothing. She has been working for close to minimum wage for a number of retail stores since 2008.
What advice would you have for her?
The problem was getting a degree that is not marketable. Not sure what the best advice is here except see what other types of training she can get.
I wonder if I'm Retired Now used to be known as Weekend Traveler?????
Anyhoo, the niece/nephew got scammed by college. Colleges actually sell this crap to kids to keep the profs employed. I think the liberal arts departments at a lot of universities probably need to be shut down because what the heck does one do with a degree in women's studies or folklore besides work at Starbucks or Burger King?

Sorry, you're wrong. Colleges offer all types of degree. Majors are not assigned. No one is forced to take a specific program.
If someone wants to study French History, are you saying that request should be denied? Students don't have the freedom to choose what they study?
Colleges are not responsible for a student's future employment prospects. It's the student's future and it's up to the student to decide how that future will unfold.
A student can do a simple google search to see the employment stats for certain degrees.
He/She is screwed, go back to college for business/accounting/finance/management if you want to work as a manager at a large company.
