I am putting resumes in different companies. Right now I am being paid 81k as a Senior Structural Engineer in CA. I highly feels that I am being underpaid so I really wanted to do some research. I am looking into glass door and other sites for this but I really want to hear from real people. If someone from this field or have any idea about it please comment . Thanks

I structural engineer I can assume you are a registered professional engineer in CA?

Appears the median pay is $86.4k but that is in Sacramento.

I hired for a client in the Bay area, and the range was between $120k-$140k. This was for a PM position.

I'm a civil engineer though not structural. I know structural engineers though and have worked with some and even considered doing that.

It depends on how many years of experience you have.

Payscale is generally pretty accurate. Put in the city in CA where you live and the amount of years of experience. For my area, which is high cost on the other coast, for a Structural Engineer with 8 years of experience, the average is 78K. CA Structurals get paid a little more, but in general you are right about there.

Another thing about structural engineering, is that there are many people who are very good at their job. There are people with doctorates who really know their stuff or who are super passionate about it working positions as non-managerial structural engineers. So, in a sense you will get paid what you are worth, especially in super competitive CA, where Earthquake engineering complicates things. Improving your English would help your cause here.

Nobody in ANY field of engineering is going to throw a whole bunch of $ at you just because you have XX years of experience. You have to be really good at what you do in a technical field or bring in work.
