Which is why everyone was recommending that you look into (unpaid) internship or volunteer work while you are unemployed for so long. Even if it costs you in transportation costs, at least you will gain some useful experience to put on your resume, appear to potential employers that you are a great member of society AND... possibly gain you personal references that you can also write on your applications or a hookup to real employment.
Here in Montana they are everywhere you look for any kind of business. Some businesses get so desperate they put help wanted signs on bulletin boards around several small towns around their area. Some businesses such as McDonald's pay much more than minimum wages to start, and constantly have help wanted ads on their big reader boards with offered starting wages as high as $14 an hour. They hire on the spot. They don't even bother to advertise in newspapers, and Internet sources. They just put up a help wanted sign.
Go over to the oil patch area of NE Montana and NW North Dakota, and see the signs offering as much as $22 an hour to start at McDonald's. In that area if you want a job, just hold up a sign you are looking for work and get ran over by offers.
