I recently applied to a company for their development program in business consulting. I got a call the other day from the "lead" recruiter saying the business consulting program has no more room left, and told me to apply for another program which is for retail consulting which "suits" me better. Weirdly enough, a few hours later I received an email, this time from the Hiring Team, telling me to take an assessment for the business consulting position (the email says this is the 1st step in the interview process). I had a feeling the lady lied to me, since the job posting was posted the day I applied. Should I just ignore the lady's plea for me to apply to that retail position I have no intention of applying for, and just take the assessment test?

Thank you.
If you have already decided you have no intention of applying for a position why would you have to ask if you should ignore someone's plea for you to apply for it?
This is something that appears to be obvious to me and common sense as well as your own decision making skills should give you the answer to your question.
Just take the assessment test for the business consulting position and see how it goes. Do you have the name of this "lead" recruiter? Try to see what she does, if she's really related to the business consulting part. If she's the lead, you'll meet her during the interviews.
Thank you everyone. The lady emailed me right after the phone call and I looked her up. She's the "lead recruiting manager".
