The only interview I got was for a weekend sales job giving out food samples in grocery stores; that's what I'm currently doing and it sucks for $66 a day twice a month and the pay is slow as hell so more like $66 per month to stand for 6 hours. It hardly counts as employment. I'm 30 years old next month.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've been to seminars, had professionals review my resumes and cover letters - of which I have at least five different versions - searched all the boards and I've also applied at restaurants and grocery stores and clothing stores and coffee shops. I've gone door to door in town businesses asking, I've signed into the city's department of employment where an employment specialist has helped me to build a profile on their site to view new jobs daily, and I have one of my aunts who works at the FCC helping to refer me. No luck yet.

My situation is pretty precarious because I left home and am staying with someone else, who I obviously cannot stay with for too much longer. I can't pay rent and I've applied for emergency temporary housing, and with that I'll still need a job to pay rent the months after. This is really killing me not having a stable job like nearly everyone else in the world, especially considering that I have so much debt I need to pay.

How are people getting jobs these days? I feel like I'm on a black list where everyone else is getting interviews and job offers and getting paid well and here I am stuck in poverty, jobless, with not one interview.

Not nearly everyone else. MANY MANY people don't have a stable job. And MANY have debt so you are not alone.

I wish I had some advice but my husband is going on one year without a job and hasn't had an interview since last Sept.

Too many people---->not enough jobs.

I never get called back at those either. Temp agencies and recruiters have been a dead end for me.

How many mock interviews are you doing a week? Don't just have these professional resume people look at your stuff. These people aren't always that great.

Do dozens of mock interviews every week. When your resume is torn apart and reviewed by a variety people, it will be bullet proof. Then, you can start getting hits.

What sort of job history do you have?

Are you applying on-line or going into the temp agency, in person? Big difference.

We use temps from an agency at times, and are often able to get the same person back again. Some of them are doing just fine with only the temp agency work for several years. They are paid well over minimum wages and even get benefits, including medical.

This is an interesting situation. I've known people who have had a hard time finding a job in their field, but every single one of them could at least find a job at a clothing store or restaurant. If you really, really need a job just for now, there are places that are always hiring because of heavy turnover like call centers, collection agencies, and warehouses. You will need to change your resume to fit those jobs. They are not looking for someone who they know will probably leave once something better comes through. You have to give them the impression that you'll stick around for a while.

I can't relate to your situation because I've been fortunate and have worked continuously for 37 years with the same company. I think a lot of us don't realize just how bad the employment situation is. I do hope you find something soon as it seems like not only are you struggling to survive day to day, but it's also impacting your confidence. Like others have said, try retail or the food industry. Something will come up, just keep plugging along.
