Current job: 16 general-purpose days off, which includes vacation, sick days, funeral leave, and so on. Must be scheduled in advance, and you can only take a couple of unplanned-in-advance days off (for illness, etc) before you receive a written warning.

Last job: No paid time off, but could take off at any time with no notice, for any length of time.

Looking for a happy medium out there.

After 7 years in the same job and 17 years in the same field I get 23 days PTO that includes sick days. My equivalent workers get more than a month off in the UK for vacation. I had better benefits when I was a rookie in my field all told.

I work for a Fortune 500 company. 5 weeks PTO but 13 days is comp time so actual PTO is 1.4 weeks. ! work 39-40 weekends in a year. No sick time and to use a vacation day, it must be scheduled a week in advance. The workplace is thinly staffed, so anyone who has time off has given two people an extra 4 hours of work to fill the vacancy for that day. Holidays must be worked if you are scheduled for that day. (FMLA is used and manipulated by a slight few.)

I have been there for 40+ years.

I have 15 days PTO. I also have the freedom to take unpaid leave in the winter within reason.

Holiday: 9 holidays during the year

PTO: 15 days

Sick days: I believe it's officially 2 days

Many work "overtime" or weekends/holidays so the true vacation taken is sometimes blurred to "comp" for this

Oh yeah Devans0, I also work night and weekends and I'm on call every month, but that is included in the 'salary' but I am not a manager. All of this would be billable in Europe or California. I also work for a Fortune 500.
This is why I like contract work, what my government has done for me has made my ass sore.

8 holidays and 10 days PTO.. Can carry over 5 days of PTO into the next year.

Next time raise time comes around, i'm gonna try to negotiate for more PTO rather than more money. I had 15 days this year(carried 5 over), but with a death in the family last month, I used 5 days.. 5 days vacation planned for next month.. I can't take any more without dipping into 'the reserves'.. I like to keep the max I can, because you never know when something will happen where you need it.

The last job I had.. I had 37 days banked when they laid me off. They were pissed at that and wound up changing policy because of it. They had never had anyone bank up that much time.

I work for a school district. I get three days off each at Thanksgiving and Easter (making it a five day weekend), two full weeks at Christmas, plus all the government Monday holidays. Not all paid. I also get the entire summer off (12 weeks). Not paid. Today is my last day, then summer vacation begins!
