OMG, that was actually painful to watch, I was cringing at how foolish he was making himself look. He has no idea how idiotic his behavior was. Unbelievably unprofessional and immature.
I worked at a popular women's/men's clothing store at the mall. They told us never confront shoplifters. The way to prevent shoplifting is to "provide good customer service". They also have something called "shrink allowance" and it is exactly what it sounds like. They allow for a certain amount of loss for shoplifters and it is put into the budget.
Did they actually say that with a straight face?
Tho my BIL used to work in a shoe store. He claims asking people their first name is a sure fire way to prevent them from stealing. I dunno about that, but he claims it works.

I could see that an attempt at minimal rapport to guilt them into not stealing. Pretty clever
Did it occur to this degenerate that spraying someone with a toxic chemical could cause permanent harm, even as bad as permanent vision loss or blindness? How dumb could he be that he cares enough about some DOLLAR STORE merchandise made by child labor in Communist China that he's willing to assault somebody?
The store manager is not after having the shoplifters charged, perhaps seeing the pregnant status of woman, that's why he just went and talked to the girls. He just want to make sure that they are aware they've been caught and not to scam his shop again.
