It more or less means "show up on time". That must be a problem for some of their employees.

I actually do have reliable trans. I have my own wheels. I live in a borough of NYC. There are subways here pretty much everywhere. The only places that don't have train service are scheit areas and the boondok parts of NY.Do I really want to be stuck in traffic every day going to and back? NO. Do I want to worry about parking, meters and a bad nabe where they can damage or even steal my car? Hell no. So for ME, it's a red flag when they put that mess in an ad.
New York has a LOT of other options for transportation I believe Boston, Chicago and a few other east coast cities have good public transportation so there are subsitutes to owning your own car and I know people who do live in those cities who do not own cars because they don't need it. Other areas namely Phoenix is not as good public transit wise. Don't get me wrong, they are getting better but it's still a ways to go.

I agree. It's as if having your own vehicle always means you're going to be on time for work. I know it's thought to reduce the "I couldn't get a ride" kinds of excuses, but those who really want to make excuses for frequent tardiness will find other ways (bad weather, babysitter didn't show up, etc.). Honestly I don't think applications or job ads should be allowed to ask a possible employee whether or not they have a personal vehicle. Some applications even ask for your driver's license number; some will let you skip over that part if your job has nothing to do with driving, but some require it even if your desired job is sitting at a computer. Is this a way to weed out "certain people" since you can't ask about disabilities, criminal history, class, etc.? I believe so.
