There's something about getting paid exactly what you're worth and not being told what to do by someone else( except the customer) that works for me.

Well that wasn't as much a surprise, as me finding out that my boss wanted me to smoke him about but didnt even have 5 on it to put down. And the guy makes 10k a year more than me. Anyways most of the guys at my work are in their 20's and 30's so there is no harm done, save a few brain cells. Helps pass the boooooooring monotony of working. We tell jokes, eat food, rough house, I imagine work would be down right lame with out it...

At my job when things are slow on the weekends and stuff. We watched movies, clean and organize. I've use the time to study for school. Also a lady I worked with used the free time to work on her quilt and stuff. Though there are times when we still get bored, we have had water gun fights, gumball challeges about anything to speed the clock to leaving time

Of course most of you will say find another job. But that is not possible for many people due to a lack of opportunities for interesting work in many communities and lack of skills, education and training. How do you handle boredom on the job?
When I worked as a software engineer, I was incredibly bored. I fought this by planning for a different career, which gave me the feeling that this situation had an end to it. I also focused on doing the best work that I could just to take some pride in its quality. It helped also to talk to people in my company who I didn't know. Meeting new people can add a different perspective.

I have talked about workplace boredom with many people and I am shocked to learn that very few people will admit to being bored at work. Their argument is that if they are busy they are not bored. They could put a nut in a bolt for hours and just as long as they did not run out of nuts and bolts they would not be bored. I suspect that this tells you a little about the mentality of the average person.

If someone has an active mind they should never be satisfied and always fighting boredom.

I read, watch movies, play the SIMS on my laptop, write short stories, poems, I scribble my first name and my boyfriends last name on my notepad and draw little hearts and flowers around it, I call in to talk radio shows and give obnoxious opinions about stuff...but in between all of that, I schedule in a few clients, too.

OMG! I know how you feel. My boss never gives me enough work - and when he does give me something its usually done in 10 minutes. I've told him I don't have anything to do and his response is "your job is to make my job easier - my job isn't easier if I have to find things for you to do" He doesn't even want to know! Where do you think I am now! LOL I can relate.....good luck to you!
