Hi all,

I work as an environmental biologist monitoring and permitting for large infrastructure, utilities, and construction projects.

I am currently a public state worker and have been for 2 years. I interviewed for a job with private consulting and received a job offer.

I currently make $45K and in the private I would get a pay raise to $60K. I currently live on the Central California Coast in San Luis Obispo. The private job is in San Ramon. The cost of living is higher up there in the greater Bay Area.

I am comfortable in my current career, private would absolutely be challenging but I would have the opportunity to learn much more. Part of what's holding me back is the benefits of being a state worker and the stability.

Can anyone give me advice on the transition from public to private?
